After surviving a three-year hiatus, the Tan Chong Car Challenge was on the road again, in search of the next resilient soul to win a brand-new car.
This year, the grand prize was between a Nissan Kicks e-Power and the Subaru Forester iL-EyeSight.
The Tan Chong Car Challenge.
In case you've never heard of this challenge, this is how it goes.
Preliminary challenges would be held all over participating Asian countries. The shortlisted candidates will represent their country for the final battle at a designated country.
Participants will have to be 18 years old or above. This, however, will differ according to your country.
The challenge requires the participants to place their right palm on designated parts on a car. At the final showdown, the competition will span over two days. Don't worry, there will be intervals with a five-minute break every six hours.
Palm and mind on the prize.
This year, the final showdown was hosted in Singapore with 174 participants from Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, and Cambodia.
Previously, contestants only had to put their palm on the car for as long as possible. This year was slightly different.
There were hourly elimination games like Car Swap, The Cross-Legged Crane, Reach Out Rhinoceros, Tipsy Bottle Trick, and more.
In the 30-hour span of the challenge, there were about eight mini challenges and six car swops, which required participants to switch positions in seconds.
Finally, it was down to four contestants — a pair from Singapore and Vietnam each.
The last man standing!
After an excruciating 30-hour long battle at the Tan Chong Car Challenge held on November 4 and 5, 56-year-old Chan Kok Seng from Singapore emerged as the last man standing.
Chan, who is a service engineer, expressed his happiness and credited his wife for being his support system throughout the challenge.
Chan also said he practices Taiji, a form of Chinese martial arts every day, and does yoga and in-line skating occasionally.
He took home a Nissan Kicks e-Power Premium Adventure Series car worth S$105,300 (US$77,638.26) without the certificate of entitlement.
He is the second-oldest person to win in the challenge since it started in 2002 when it was called the 'Subaru Car Challenge'. The oldest winner was 58 years old.
