UPDATE: Sep. 22, 2023, 5:00 AM EDT This shopping guide has been updated to reflect Mashable's latest hands-on product testing.

To help you find the best charging station for your devices, we've been hard at work testing some of the most popular products in this category. Mashable shopping editors and product testers are constantly trying out new tech, and as a result, our desktops are overflowing with USB cables and chargers just begging to be organized. And we're not the only ones.

Stop for a second and think about how many hours you spend each day using some sort of device that needs to be regularly charged. Between laptops, tablets, smartphones, smartwatches, wireless earbuds, fitness trackers, and handheld gaming devices, most people's answer would probably be "every waking hour" — and we say that with very little exaggeration.

For better or worse, that's just the nature of modern life. We work on our laptops, socialize on our smartphones, entertain ourselves on our tablets, and exercise with our fitness trackers and wireless earbuds. With each one of those devices comes a soon-to-be-tangled cord, and it can be hard to keep all of our chargers straight (literally and figuratively). And when all of those cables gather near our electrical outlets — twisting, turning, and twirling around day after day — we're eventually left with a grotesque jumble that rivals nature's worst rat kings

Testing popular charging stations for this review.

Fortunately, the best charging stations can completely transform your space. Even better, while device charging stations and hubs often looked, well, really ugly in the past, modern charging stations for multiple devices are also stylish enough to earn pride of place on your desktop.

After carefully researching wired charging docks, wireless chargers, and the best wireless charging stations, we've put together this guide. Our top picks have been hands-on tested over a period of several weeks (or longer), and they're just what you need to declutter your desk.

Some of the charging products tested for this review.

What’s a device charging station?

A device charging station is a hub where you can organize all of your mobile devices and electronics while they charge. There are different types, but each one provides some form of cord management to prevent your cables from getting tangled or, possibly even worse, falling out of your reach when you need them the most. These charging stations keep your charging cables close (or eliminate them altogether) so you can enjoy a clutter-free home or workspace.

Charging stations are not the same as power banks, which are designed for portability.

What types of charging stations can you buy?

There are three main types of charging stations: wired, wireless, and non-tech hubs designed purely for organization and cord management.

Each of these types comes in various shapes and sizes that cater to a range of devices. Some may have a special spot to charge small devices, like a smartwatch or earbuds; others will have ample space to accommodate larger tech like laptops and tablets, or a whole household's worth of smartphones.

  • Wired charging stations have a mix of USB-A ports, USB-C ports, and AC power outlets to accommodate multiple charging cables. Some USB charging stations also have a series of dividers along the top where devices can be slotted in between like books on a bookshelf.
  • Wireless charging stations plug into a wall outlet for power delivery, but they wirelessly charge compatible devices for a cord-free experience.
  • Non-tech charging stations are aesthetically pleasing containers that can hide a power strip or surge protector inside their base. On top, there are slots to place your devices as well as holes to accommodate charging cables.

You can also find charger stations designed for a particular product ecosystem. For instance, the best Apple charging stations can help you wirelessly charge your iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods all at once. With the release of the iPhone 15, this could be the perfect time to invest in a 3-in-1 wireless charging station.

The top charging stations for every combination of devices

  • Number of devices it can charge: Has 5 slots, but depends on your own power strip(s)
  • Watts: n/a
  • Wired or wireless: Neither

This sleek and simple bamboo charging station can declutter your workspace and replace a tangle of cables with something more attractive. It keeps power strips and surge protectors (not included) elegantly hidden inside its covered base, while cutouts along the back and side allow easy access to plug in all your devices for charging.

Whether you set it up on your desktop, nightstand or kitchen counter, the bamboo charging station can house up to five smartphones and tablets between its removable divider slots. You can even customize it to leave a couple of those sturdy dividers off, creating a flat base on one side to place your wireless charger or a smart home hub like the Echo Dot.

Best of all, it's made from 100% natural, sustainably harvested bamboo, making it an environmentally responsible, durable, and easy-to-clean product.

The good

If your household plays host to a wide variety of mobile devices from different brands, look no further. This multi-device charging station boasts two USB C ports and two fast charging USB A ports along the side, and a Qi-certified wireless charging pad in the front for charging your AirPods or a compatible smartphone. The device slots are generously spaced (although not removable), and the station organizer as whole is sturdy enough to accommodate larger tablets or iPads without the base tipping over. The LED light at the front displays the station's charging status and it has built-in protection to keep your devices from overheating. Just keep in mind that mini cables are not included with this charging station, so the cord side can look a little messy if you don't purchase some separately.

The good

The Bad
Apple Watch charging cable not included Doesn't support Android earbuds or smartwatches

If you're already a fan of the popular Anker Powerwave 3, you'll love this similar — but far more portable — style from the same brand. This wireless charging station has the ability to fold down flat and weighs less than eight ounces, making it perfectly packable for travel.

When settled at your destination (whether that's a vacation spot or just your office desk), you can flip up the smartphone stand on the left side to charge your phone wirelessly while viewing the screen vertically or horizontally. On the right side, there's space to wirelessly charge your AirPods and charge your Apple Watch with your charging cord, too.

The good
Sleek, architecturally inspired design Small footprint fits any surface Quick charge, especially for Apple Watch Compatible with MagSafe cases
The Bad
Very expensive Only supports later-model Apple devices
The Bottomline
If all of your devices are made by Apple, this attractive charging station is the ideal choice.

This aesthetic MagSafe charger from Belkin is the best charging station for Apple products. The 3-in-1 device has two arms — one for your iPhone and one for your Apple Watch — and a space for your AirPods to wirelessly charge while sitting on the base. It aligns perfectly for optimized charging of your iPhone every time you place it (the LED indicator will let you know), and you can charge your iPhone horizontally or vertically (perfect for Facetime calls or streaming videos at your desk).

Best of all, the whole charging station looks super sleek and futuristic with its clean, white base and chrome-like arms. Now that wireless charging is becoming the norm, 3-in-1 wireless charging stations are a popular solution, and this Belkin product is definitely one of the best.

The good
Fast charging for Samsung devices Lots of safety features Sleep-friendly LED design Wireless charge through most cases Has watch charger
The Bad
Not compatible with Apple Watch and AirPods
The Bottomline
Samsung fans should stop their search right here as this is easily the best charging station for Galaxy devices.
Specs
  • Number of devices it can charge: 2
  • Watts: 20W
  • Wired or wireless: Wireless

If you prefer the Android ecosystem, then this affordable Yootech device is the best wireless charging station for Android devices. Its base has been designed specifically to charge the Samsung Galaxy Watch and any Qi-certified Android phone or iPhone. (However, Samsung phones benefit the most from its fast charging capabilities.) Plus, it has built-in temperature control, surge protection and short-circuit protection, and is made of fire-resistant material to keep you and your devices safe.

The good
Two Qi wireless chargers MagSafe compatible charging stand for iPhone Acts as both a charging station and phone stand Durable aluminum and stainless steel body Great for the office or nightstands USB-C cable included
The Bad
AC adapter not included with purchase USB-C cable is extremely short
The Bottomline
Specs
  • Number of devices it can charge: 2
  • Watts: 7.5W and 5W

Satechi makes affordable charging products, and it's a great alternative to brands such as Anker or Belkin. We've previously recommended Satechi charging stations, and this 2-in-1 device is perfect for Apple users who want to wirelessly charge their MagSafe iPhone and AirPods.

You can find a lot of 3-in-1 Apple charging stations for sale on Amazon, but most of these products include an Apple Watch charging dock, which is useless if you don't have an Apple Watch in the first place.

We love this charging station because it doubles as both a phone stand and a wireless charging station. The magnetic stand will wirelessly charge your iPhone while keeping its display visible and accessible. Perfect for keeping on your desktop or nightstand, the Satechi MagSafe 2-in-1 charging station has a sleek aluminum and steel body and costs just $59.99.

Courant Catch:3

Most Giftable

The good
Fast wireless charging Serves as a catchall for keys and other EDC items Additional USB-A charging port Qi wireless charging for all types of devices Monogramming available through the Courant online store One of Oprah's Favorite Things
The Bad
Expensive, especially with monogramming Can only charge two devices at once
The Bottomline
Specs
  • Number of devices it can charge: 2
  • Watts: Up to 10W
  • Wired or wireless: Both

The Courant Catch:3 has been showing up on gift guides ever since it was first released, and it was even picked as one of Oprah's Favorite Things... all the way back in 2018. Five years later, it's still an attractive, useful, and popular wireless charging station, although it's not quite as technically impressive as it used to be. The exterior of the charging station is covered in high-quality leather (available in multiple colors and styles), and if you're giving this item as a gift, you can monogram three initials onto the leather through the Courant online store.

Modern features like MagSafe or fast charging aren't available, although this device does use three Qi wireless charging coils to power up your devices in a timely manner. Although the Catch:3 can only wirelessly charge a single device at a time, an additional USB-A outlet can be used to charge a second device.

Mashable freelance editor and product tester Timothy Beck Werth has kept the Catch:3 on his desk for four years and counting, and it's proven to be extremely reliable. The best charging stations are multi-purpose and practical, and he appreciates the valet-style catchall, which can be used to store everyday items like keys, pens, and wireless earbuds.

SIIG 90W Smart 10-Port USB Charging Station

Best Extra-Large Charging Station

The good
Charge up to 10 devices at once LED ambient light for night-time charging Charging ports adapt to your device's needs for faster, more efficient charging Attractive non-slip exterior keeps the station and devices in place
The Bad
The base model doesn't have a wireless charging pad (the version with wireless charging starts at $80.49) Device slots can't be customized or moved Not ideal for individuals Only has USB-A ports
The Bottomline
Specs
  • Number of devices it can charge: 10
  • Watts: 90W
  • Wired or wireless: Wired

This SIIG device is the best charging station for multiple devices if you live in a large household or need a communal charger for your office. Unless you're a dedicated early adopter with dozens of devices that need to be charged, it's probably overkill for individuals.

When testing this device, we were surprised by how lightweight it was. It also has a non-slip matte exterior that will stop your devices from slipping around as they charge. Please note that while the charging pad on the front of the device might look like a wireless charger, it's actually just a resting place for your devices. (You can buy the wireless charging version at Amazon for just $20 more.)

The blue lights on the device came in handy for night-time charging, and it's an all-around convenient solution. Unlike the bamboo charging dock featured below, you can't move around the slots on top of the device, but each slot is large enough for even the biggest smartphones and tablets.

TOZO W1 Wireless Charging Pad

Best Wireless Charging Pad

The good
At 5mm thick, it's the thinnest wireless charging pad on Amazon Almost always discounted to $10.99 via Amazon Prime Comes in dozens of colors LED indicator lights let you know when your device is charged QI certification
The Bad
AC adapter not included No USB-A port
The Bottomline
Specs
  • Number of devices it can charge: 1
  • Watts: 10W
  • Wired or wireless: Wireless

The TOZO W1 wireless charger is so thin that guests can easily mistake it for a coaster, so be careful where you set it down. Measuring in at just 5mm thick, this ultra-thin charging pad has a sleek exterior that's available in multiple colors and with either matte or mirror finishes. The charger is so thin because it uses high-quality aluminum, and it's a modern-looking and Qi-certified device.

While a short USB-C cable is included with your purchase, you'll need your own power adapter if you want to plug it into the wall or a surge protector.

In our testing, this device has proven to be long-lasting, and it's an affordable charging solution even when it's not on sale. TOZO boasts that this fast charger can juice up your devices quicker than plastic wireless charging pads, and that's proven to be true during our hands-on testing.

Although this wireless charging pad can only charge a single device, it's an affordable product and a smart add-on to wired charging stations.

The good
Charge six devices at once using AC outlets, USB-A, and USB-C ports Five-foot AC adapter included with purchase GaN materials provide faster charging and prevent overheating Unique LED display gives you real-time data on voltage, Watts, and current Anker ActiveShield 2.0 protects devices from short-circuiting Adapts power to intelligently charge devices efficiently and quickly

The Bottomline
Specs
  • Number of devices it can charge: 6
  • Watts: 140W
  • Wired or wireless: Wired

The Anker Prime 6-in-1 Charging Station is our top pick for the best charging station of 2023. Unless you have your heart set on wireless charging, you won't find a better product in this category.

Editor and product tester Timothy Beck Werth has tested a lot of charging products, from portable power stations to USB-charging sticks, and he says that Anker has become his brand of choice. Now, the popular Anker 727 Charging Station has been updated in the form of the Anker Prime, a wired charging station with GaN technology. (GaN is a more efficient semiconducter that generates less heat and takes up less space). We've tested other Anker GaN Prime products, and they really do provide noticeably faster charge times, although they're also more expensive.

The Anker Prime Charging Station can charge up to six devices at once thanks to two AC outlets, two USB-A ports, and two USB-C ports. Not only that, but a real-time power meter display lets you know how many Watts each port is using at any given time. As your devices' batteries are recharged, you'll see the Watts increase and decrease as Anker PowerIQ adapts to each device. This ensures you aren't wasting energy, and it's satisfying to see the levels change in real time. And if that's not enough, Anker's ActiveShield 2.0 also protects your devices from short circuiting.

The Anker Prime takes up very little space on your desktop, and besides the price, we haven't found anything to complain about so far. The 5-foot grounded AC adapter should be more than long enough for most use cases. A wireless charger would be a nice inclusion, but you can also plug a wireless charging pad into this device.
