China and Thailand Mutually Agree To Waive Visa Requirements Starting March 2024

On January 28, 2024, China and Thailand have mutually agreed to waive visa requirements between both countries.

Previously, Thailand's Prime Minister, Srettha Thavisin, had already announced the plan to permanently waive visa requirements back on January 2, 2024.

The mutual visa exemption will take effect on March 1, 2024, and passport holders from both countries will be able to enter and stay for up to 30 days in the other country without visas.

The agreement was signed during a visit by China's Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, to Thailand.

"This visa-free era will bring people-to-people exchanges to a new height," said Wang during a joint press conference.

China was a top source for Thailand's tourism industry, a major driver of Southeast Asia's second-largest economy before COVID-19.

Thailand is also one of the many Southeast Asian countries to sign the visa waiver agreement with China, following in the footsteps of its neighboring countries, such as Malaysia and Singapore.
