It's been a long day. You've just got off from another virtual meeting, or that last class of the week. You stare at your computer, and it stares right back at you. The computer's still on, so you might as well use it while waiting for the next thing to do. So, what do you do?
If you're tired of scrolling through social media, or find that you've practically watched everything that's available on Netflix, then why not go for some of these random websites that can help you pass your time while also learning something new.
Try these on for size to elevate your boredom:
1. Weavesilk
Yes, you're looking to pass the time. But who said you can't create something while you're at it? Weavesilk lets you create beautiful images with just a drag of your cursor. Literally, all you need to do is click and drag, and your mindless clicks will turn into some amazing designs.
You can change the color of the lines if you want to change it up a bit. This website is definitely for those who love to create, and of course, for those who love staring at the Windows Media Player visualizations from way back when (you know the one).
2. A Soft Murmur
For those who cannot stand silence and need some measure of noise in the background, this website lets you create your own ambience. With audio options like rain, thunder, white noise, and even a singing bowl noise, you can control the volume of each one and make your own ambience from the comfort of your own room.
3. Space Jam
Okay, maybe you didn't like the sequel of the iconic Space Jam, but hey, at least an interactive website came out of it. Through this website, you can enjoy a game of pinball with all your favorite Looney Tunes characters. There's also an AR Lens available for your mobile if you want to have your own Tweety Birds flying around your head, and a downloadable activity book filled with games, puzzles, and coloring pages for kids (or kids at heart).
If you want a wave of nostalgia, the original Space Jam website is still very much intact. You can look into some behind-the-scenes videos and pictures, and get some printable coloring pages in this interactive website from 1996.
4. Find the Invisible Cow
Do it. Just do it. It's funny, trust me. Make sure your volume is on, and good luck!
5. 100, 000 Stars
Explore the galaxy through this unique website that lets you scroll through the universe to see the different stars astronomers have identified through the years. Clicking on the stars will open a panel that will explain the history and fun facts of the star.
Astound your family and friends with astronomy facts from this website. For example, did you know that it would take 18 years for a jet airplane to fly to the sun? Well, now you do.
6. The Office Stare Machine
Here, you'll find clips of every single time a character has speechlessly broken the fourth wall to stare into the camera. They're all categorized according to 800 different emotions, so knock yourself out typing in any emotion and getting a bunch of clips from The Office that encapsulates said emotion in that zoomed in side glance we've come to love. If you sit through all the stares, there's also a secret video at the end!
7. Incredibox
Featuring sounds and beats recorded by their team of beatboxers, this app lets you mix and match various tunes to make your own kind of music. You just need to drag the sound bites to the avatars present and play around until you find your sound. While Incredibox is a paid app, their website hosts a demo version that still lets you create your music.
8. Poptropica
If you're missing a lot of games because Flash is no longer around, fear not. There are still a few games out there for you to play online! Poptropica is a point-and-click RPG that lets you go on quests in this colorful world. If you're looking for some form of escapism after a long day, going on adventures in this animated world is surely one way to achieve this.
9. Eyebleach.me
Let's admit it, we all know at least one person who will go look for happy and cute things after watching something scary. Well, this website has them covered. If you're a scaredy-cat who needs a fix of cute animals after a horror film, check out Eyebleach.me to see as many cute pictures as you need to.
10. Do Nothing for Two Minutes
It's all in the name. Developed by Calm, this website shows you the horizon, and plays wave sounds for you to calm down. The task is simple: Just do nothing for two minutes. Moving your mouse or typing on your keyboard automatically resets the timer, and you have to wait out your time again. While it's probably the adult equivalent of a time-out, it does offer you a breather from your hectic life, and lets you calm down as you listen to the waves. So, sit back and relax!
Are you still bored? ;)
